OWL KEEPER – Sentinel of Wisdom
This first chainsaw carving of mine is finally available!
’Owl Keeper’ is my first ever Totem Carving in a New School, Cartoon-ish way, the Wisdom in Grief, represented respectively by the Owl and the Skull.
Made of a 18” or 46cm diameter Western Red Cedar Tree that I harvested myself from our property in the Slocan Valley, BC, this sculpture is 48” or 122cm tall.
From the forest floor of Slocan Valley rises a cedar guardian: the Owl, ancient teacher, perched on a skull that keeps memory alive. Together they speak of grief alchemised into insight. This was Gurvan’s first chainsaw dialogue with cedar.
The Owl Keeper asks: What wisdom will you protect in your own domain?
4 ft Western Red Cedar from Slocan Valley
Owl 🦉 = Wisdom | Skull 💀 = Memory
First piece of Gurvan’s New-School Totem series
Outdoor-ready finish | One-of-one | Signed & dated
